SOOHO.IO supported Pizza DAO’s Global Bitcoin Pizza Day celebration by providing the venue at Sooho Lounge. The event brought the community together to remember an early demonstration that cryptocurrency could be used for an everyday purchase.

The Story Behind Bitcoin Pizza Day

On May 22, 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz offered 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas on a Bitcoin forum. Someone accepted, completing one of Bitcoin’s earliest documented real-world purchases.

The 10,000 bitcoins were worth around USD 41 at the time. By the period of this 2025 celebration, their value was approaching USD 1 billion. Beyond that striking comparison, the transaction showed that a digital currency could be exchanged for something tangible.

The purchase became a milestone in the history of cryptocurrency payments, demonstrating an application beyond online trading and speculation.
